Bering Strait School District
Bering Strait School District administers K–12 educational programs across fifteen remote coastal and island villages in northwest Alaska, managed from its central office in Unalakleet. Returning families complete annual registration using a student-specific Snapcode, with local school secretaries providing registration assistance.
Every village school features an active Bilingual/Bicultural Department that partners with local culture bearers to teach indigenous languages, traditional arts, subsistence knowledge, and cultural values. High schoolers can access regional vocational training through the district's NACTEC technical partnership in Nome. In addition, each village elects an Advisory Education Committee (AEC) that provides community guidance to school administrators and represents local priorities before the regional school board.
