Lower Yukon School District serves ten Yup'ik villages spanning roughly 22,000 square miles across the lower Yukon River and the Bering Sea coast. Yup'ik cultural traditions and bilingual literacy form the core of the instructional program: the district curriculum provides structured PULASARAQ cultural units, K–6 Yugtun language materials, annual Culture Week celebrations, and Native Youth Olympics training across all village sites.
For secondary students, Kusilvak Career Academy (KCA) in Anchorage offers an intensive residential career and technical education experience. High school juniors and seniors travel to Anchorage for multi-week career immersions, completing focused vocational certifications before returning to their home village schools. Families coordinate travel schedules and dorm guidelines directly through the academy.
